Stockport County Community Foundation “Sport in Memories” project is for senior citizens 50 years of age and above, and provides them with opportunities that will make a real difference to their lives in the community. The project will be run in partnership with Stockport Homes and Mental Health Carers Group Stockport. We feel these two partners will enhance the project by providing residents and carers with the opportunity to benefit by sharing experiences, reminiscing, sharing their life stories and expressing themselves creatively and therapeutically through art. The aim is to reach out and to support people who are lonely and living in social isolation, those living with long-term mental/health conditions, those looking after loved ones with complex needs, dementia or possible physical and learning disabilities.

“Sport in Memories” is a weekly drop-in providing an opportunity for senior citizens to attend and socialise with other members of the group, and to get involved in a 2-hour interactive session in the Stockport County Museum. They will be able to learn about the club’s 125-year-old history, swap their stories, reminisce about their past football experiences and much more. The project will enable those attending to engage and make new friends, to talk to present day players and ex – players and to work with staff and volunteers.
