Stockport County Community Foundation is delighted with the Football Foundation offering a Grow the Game grant from the FA of £1,500 towards setting up a new Stockport County adult girl’s/women’s disability football team.

The grant, which will provide a boost to grassroots disability football in Stockport, has paved the way for the Community Foundation to further enhance their disability programme in the development of a new adult girl’s/women’s team. Over the forthcoming season they will encourage new players by holding taster coaching sessions and girl’s disability festivals at the monthly Ability Counts Adult Disability Tournaments and provide the opportunity for competitive matches against other girl’s teams.

Grow the Game is a programme funded by The FA and delivered by the Football Foundation. It awards grants to grassroots football clubs that wish to create new teams, especially amongst under-represented groups.

Adrian Bates, Disability Officer for the Community Foundation said:

“We would like to say a big thankyou to the Football Foundation for their generous Grow The Game grant of £1,500 towards our new County adult girl’s/women’s disability team. Currently, the few female players we have in the club play as part of the adult male team in the monthly Cheshire FA Ability Counts League. This funding is invaluable as it gives us a massive opportunity to help “Grow The Game” in girls/women’s disability football locally. The Club is working extremely hard with the Cheshire FA and the Football Foundation to give more local players living with a disability the opportunity to get involved in the game.”
